LXDE version aims to be minimalistic while still providing the full power of ROSA Desktop systems. It includes only really necessary components and is built with the "the easier - the faster" principle in mind. Don't try to find here "bizarre simplicity" of Gnome3 or tons of configuration options as in KDE4. This is a version for those who value asceticism and speed rather than nice-looking but resource consuming user interface. The release is based on the time-proved GTK+2 framework, though some components are using the latest developments from GTK+3/GNOME3. As a result, the system is rather conservative but provides a set of modern features.

This release is based on ROSA DESKTOP FRESH R1 with all updates as of June, 14th. Major system components are the same as in KDE-based release. The distribution is targeted to machines with 256 Mb of RAM and higher, the recommended RAM size is 384 Mb.

LXDE Control Center

This is our new tool that allows to control all aspects of the system from a single entry point. Just launch Control Center from menu or by typing lxde-control-center command. Choose you theme (light or dark) and particular kind of settings you want to change. We plan to integrate more setup tools to the Control Center in future.

Lightweight Desktop Environment

LXDE is one of the lightweight desktop environments. It is based on LightDM desktop manager, Openbox window manager, PCManFM file manager and a set of unique lx* components:

  • lxpanel - classic desktop panel
  • lxappearance - tool to setup theme, fonts and icons
  • lxrandr - tool to setup display
  • lxterminal - terminal emulator
